Excel : Formula Auditing
Formula Auditing in Excel is a set of tools that allows you to examine and troubleshoot formulas in your worksheets. The Formula Auditing group in the Formulas tab contains several tools that can be used to analyze and understand the relationships between cells and formulas in your worksheet.
Trace Precedents: This tool allows you to trace the cells that a selected cell is dependent on. When you click the Trace Precedents button, Excel will display arrows pointing to the cells that are referenced in the formula of the selected cell. This allows you to see how the value of the selected cell is calculated and identify any potential errors in the formula.
Trace Dependents: This tool allows you to trace the cells that are dependent on a selected cell. When you click the Trace Dependents button, Excel will display arrows pointing to the cells that reference the selected cell in their formulas. This allows you to see how the value of the selected cell is used in other formulas and identify any potential errors.
Remove Arrows: This tool allows you to remove the arrows and tracer lines that are displayed when using the Trace Precedents or Trace Dependents tool.
Error Checking: This tool allows you to check for errors in formulas in your worksheet. When you click the Error Checking button, Excel will scan your worksheet for any formulas that contain errors and display them in a dialog box. You can then click on each error to go to the cell in question and fix the error.
Watch Window: This tool allows you to view the values of a specific range of cells in a separate window, even if they are on different worksheets or workbooks. This allows you to see how these cells change in response to changes in your worksheet, and identify any potential errors.
These tools help you to identify, diagnose and fix errors in formulas, and also allow you to understand how the formulas in your worksheet are related to each other.
